Ambient Weather WS-2902A Review

The inner science nerd in me has wanted a weather station for a while now. This Christmas, I was gifted the Ambient Weather WS-2902A Smart Weather Station with Wi-Fi Remote Monitoring and Alerts.

Station before mounting

This is a legit weather station, and you can connect its sensors to IFTTT and control devices like smart blinds, irrigation systems, lights, switches, and more. You can also ask Google Assistant for real-time or past weather info from your station.

Installation consisted of syncing the station to the indoor display, finding a good location, mounting the station, and connecting the indoor display to the internet.

Getting the Ambient Weather station and the indoor display to talk to each other was easy. It connected the display to my Wi-Fi and the cloud, which was more difficult than mounting the station to my roof. After shutting off all but one wireless access point in my mesh network and temporarily unhiding my 2.4 GHz SSID, the display broadcasts to the Internet.

Mounting the Ambient Weather station to the roof was straightforward. I used a 3ft “J” pipe to get it at a good height and away from the roof line.
