If you’ve been longing for a new, upscale dining experience in Bradenton, look no further than Taverna Toscana, the latest venture from celebrity chef Fabio Viviani of Bravo’s Top Chef fame. Nestled in front of the SUNZ building downtown, this restaurant will quickly become a hotspot for locals and tourists alike. Having dined there recently, I understand why it’s generating such buzz.
Atmosphere
Walking into Taverna Toscana, you’re immediately transported to a modern rustic Italian setting. The warm wood accents, soft lighting, and charming murals depicting Tuscan landscapes create a welcoming atmosphere. The seating is comfortable, and the open kitchen adds a dynamic energy to the space. It’s elegant yet unpretentious, ideal for intimate dinners and lively gatherings. Oh, and the bathrooms are stunning!
Outdoor Dining
Toscana Taverna’s expansive outdoor bar and dining area is an oasis of comfort and style, blending the warmth of traditional Tuscan aesthetics with a modern twist. Flanked by a huge bar and adorned with string lights, this inviting space features multiple fire pits with lounge seating to gather around. Being set above street level also gives the space a unique perspective.
Service
The staff at Taverna Toscana is attentive and knowledgeable, with an evident passion for the menu. Our server and the manager expertly guided us through the evening, offering thoughtful recommendations and sharing interesting dish anecdotes. The service was efficient without feeling rushed, allowing us to savor each course leisurely.
Food and Drink
The menu at Taverna Toscana celebrates traditional Tuscan cuisine with a modern twist. The extensive wine list features an impressive selection of Italian and local wines.
We started with the Charred Spanish Octopus over crispy marble potatoes, shaved shallot, celery, and charred lemon sauce. The flavors were tasty, and the presentation was artful but not overly fussy.
I opted for the Seafood Cioppino with clams, mussels, calamari, shrimp, lobster, and charred toast in a cherry tomato broth. The seafood was perfectly cooked, and the broth was flavorful with just enough heat. It was one of the best cioppinos I’ve had outside San Francisco. My wife chose the Filet Mignon. It was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, with a simple yet delicious seasoning.
Our 6-year-old daughter ordered the quintessential kid’s meal – chicken tenders and fries. I must say, the fries were quite tasty, and I hope they will offer lunch soon.
Overall Experience
The ambiance is warm and inviting, the service is top-notch, and the food is outstanding. Whether planning a romantic dinner for two or a celebratory dinner with friends, this restaurant will not disappoint. Taverna Toscana will become a favorite spot for anyone who appreciates Italian cuisine with a contemporary flair in a beautiful setting.
